This is a current project, where SILD is the site contractor. This is a construction addition of an existing middle school in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. The earthwork consisted of prepping building pads for several additions around the campus. As well as, removing and relocating all the associated utilities and storm drainage, to accommodate the additions to the campus. All the work had to be performed while school was in session, so schedule and safety was an important, while delivering on schedule.
Moultrie Middle School Expansion
While district officials won’t break ground for more than a year, this expansion was seen as needed relief to the continued overcrowding of East Cooper Schools. The project calls for adding enough classroom space to accommodate 300 more students. That will be accomplished by extending each wing on the ends of the building. The expansion was part of the original design concept and will increase from 900 to 1,200 students.
Moultrie is the only East Cooper middle school that can realistically increase the number of students because the cafeteria, multi-purpose rooms and other spaces were all built to accommodate expansion. The facilities at Laing and Cario were designed only for their current capacity. Plans are to have the school ready by the start of the 2020 school year but will push to have it completed sooner.
